Minesweeper

Free online Minesweeper: classic, daily and musical

Free Minesweeper in your browser, with nothing to download. Clear the field without stepping on a mine: each number tells how many mines touch that square, and with those clues you place flags and open the rest. Your first click is always safe.

There are four sizes, from Beginner at 9 × 9 with 10 mines to Expert at 30 × 16 with 99, a daily board that’s the same for everyone, and the Music box, where your board turns into a piece of music. On arcadopolis.com there are also online races.

It’s one of the 51 games in the Arcadópolis Games folder.

Free, no ads, nothing to install.

What it has

  • Beginner (9 × 9, 10 mines), Intermediate (16 × 16, 40), Expert (30 × 16, 99) or your own size, up to 40 × 30.
  • “No guessing”, on from the start: boards can be solved with logic alone.

  • Music box with 8 scales and a tempo from 60 to 160.
  • Online race against up to three people.
  • Mouse, touch screen or keyboard; your best time per size and the 3BV of each board.

How to play

  1. Open the Games folder, tap Minesweeper and choose a size or the daily board.
  2. Click any square: neither it nor the eight around it is a mine, so an area opens up.
  3. Each number tells how many mines are in the eight squares around it. Right-click (or press and hold on a phone) to flag a square where you know there’s one.
  4. Clicking a number with all its flags opens the squares around it. You win when every square without a mine is uncovered.

How to play Minesweeper without stepping on mines

Start with the small numbers along the edge of the open area. If a 1 touches only one hidden square, its mine is there: flag it. If a number already has as many flags around it as it says, every other square it touches is safe. Those two ideas solve most of a board; when they’re not enough, compare two neighboring numbers that share squares, or check the counter to see how many mines are left.

With the keyboard: arrows to move, Space or Enter to reveal, F to flag, A to open around and P to pause. If you leave a game halfway, it’s saved.

The Music box

In this mode the board is the cylinder of a music box. A line sweeps the columns in a loop and every number you reveal is a pin: the number picks the note of the chord that’s playing (1 is the root; 2 and 3 complete it) and its row picks how high it sounds. Flags keep the beat. Win, and your board becomes a piece you can listen to and download; step on a mine, and the music box runs out of spring.

Common questions

How do I place a flag on a phone?

Press and hold the square, or turn on Flag mode: while it’s on, every tap adds or removes a flag.

Does the daily board change?

Yes. Every day at midnight, Mexico City time, there’s a new one, the same for everyone and solvable without guessing. It starts with an area already open. If you lose, you can try again; when you share your time, it shows how many tries it took.

Can I play against other people?

Yes, in the online race on arcadopolis.com, against up to three people on the same board; in a private room you choose 9 × 9, 16 × 16 or 30 × 16. Whoever clears it first wins, and hitting a mine freezes your board for a few seconds. You need a free account.
