Memory

Free online memory game with paintings and sounds

A free memory game in your browser, with nothing to download: flip two cards per turn and find the pairs. Play solo against the clock, 2 to 4 people taking turns on the same device, or against the computer.

It has two modes. In Artworks, the cards are 36 public-domain paintings from the Arcadópolis Museum, from four continents; when you make a pair, its title, painter and year appear. In Sound, you don’t see the cards, you hear them: each pair is a note played with the instrument of an Arcadópolis theme, and you have to find it by ear.

There are 4 × 4, 6 × 4 and 6 × 6 boards (8 to 18 pairs), records per board and seven achievements. It’s one of the 51 games in the Games folder.

What it has

  • Artworks mode: 36 paintings from the Museum, with title, painter and year when you make a pair.
  • Sound mode: each pair is a note with the instrument of a theme (the music box, the synthesizer…).
  • Solo against the clock, 2 to 4 players taking turns, or against the computer.
  • The computer remembers what it sees according to its level: Easy, Normal or Hard, with no cheating.
  • 4 × 4, 6 × 4 and 6 × 6 boards.
  • Records per board and seven achievements.

How to play

  1. Open the Games folder, tap Memory and choose the mode, board and how to play.
  2. Flip two cards. If they match (or sound the same), they stay face up.
  3. If not, they flip back over: remember where they were.
  4. Solo, you win when everything is face up; taking turns, whoever makes a pair goes again and the most pairs wins.

Memory game tips

Flip cards you haven’t seen first: each new one gives you information. When a pair misses, say quietly where each card was, like “the blue landscape, top left.” In Sound mode, humming the note helps: your ear remembers a tune better than a place.

Against the computer, watch what it turns over: it helps you too. On Easy it forgets a lot, and on Hard almost nothing.

The three boards

The 4 × 4 board has 8 pairs and is good for getting started or a quick game; the 6 × 4 has 12, and the 6 × 6 has 18 pairs, for anyone who wants a real challenge. Your best time is saved per board, and in Sound mode the 6 × 6 tests even the best ear.

Common questions

Can several people play?

Yes, 2 to 4 taking turns on the same device. Whoever makes a pair goes again, and the player with the most pairs wins.

Which paintings appear in Artworks mode?

Thirty-six public-domain paintings from the Museum, from four continents, by painters like Van Gogh, Hokusai, Velasco or Vermeer. When you make a pair, you see its title, painter and year.

How does Sound mode work?

The cards are blank: when you tap one, a note plays with the instrument of an Arcadópolis theme. You make a pair when you find two that sound the same, and then you see which one it was.
