Lotería

Free online Mexican Lotería, with a caller

Free Mexican Lotería in your browser, with nothing to download. The caller draws the cards one by one and announces each with its verse; you find the card on your 16-card board, put a bean on it and, when you complete the pattern, shout “¡Lotería!” before your neighbors do.

All 54 cards are our own design, each with its number, its picture and its verse in Spanish and English: The Piano, The Marimba, The Rocket, The Whale, The Lighthouse, The Kite, The Volcano and many more. You play against 1, 2 or 3 neighbors who mark their own boards, and you choose the winning pattern: a line, the four corners, the center or the full board.

It’s one of the 51 games in the Arcadópolis Games folder.

What it has

  • 54 original cards in five families: instruments and music, the sky, the sea, the Plaza and the arts.
  • A rhyming verse for every card; the caller reads it aloud if your browser has a voice, and each card has its own three-note tune.
  • Four winning patterns: a line (row, column or diagonal), the four corners, the center and the full board.
  • 1 to 3 neighbors (Rosa, Beto and Sol), with their boards in view so you can see how close they are.
  • Three caller speeds: a card every 7, 5 or 3 seconds, plus a pause button.
  • An auto-mark option, for playing with little ones; saved games, six achievements and records.

How to play

  1. Open the Games folder and tap Lotería.
  2. Choose how many neighbors play, the winning pattern and the caller’s speed.
  3. When the caller announces a card that’s on your board, tap it to place a bean.
  4. When you complete the pattern, tap “¡Lotería!” (or press L) before your neighbors.

The patterns, explained

The board has 4 rows and 4 columns. With “Line”, the first complete row, column or diagonal wins: there are 10 ways to get one, so it’s the quickest game. “Four corners” asks for the cards in the four corners and “Center” for the four in the middle; both are outlined in yellow on your board so you don’t lose track. “Full board” needs all 16 cards and is the longest: sometimes almost the whole deck gets called.

Tips for calling it first

Before the caller starts, take a look at your board so you know which cards you’re after. Watch your neighbors’ boards: if one of them is close, pay attention to every card. If you tap a card that hasn’t been called yet, the game won’t let you place a bean, and if you shout “¡Lotería!” too early, it lets you know and you keep playing. If you’re just starting, slow the caller down; once you know the verses, speed it up.

Common questions

How do you play Mexican Lotería?

Each player has a board with 16 cards. The caller draws cards from the deck one by one and announces each with its verse; if the card is on your board, you put a bean on it. The first to complete the agreed pattern and shout “¡Lotería!” wins.

Does the caller speak out loud?

Yes, if your browser has a voice: it reads each card’s name and verse, in Spanish or English. You can turn the voice off with the “Caller’s voice” button and keep reading the cards on screen.

Can kids play?

Yes. On slow speed a card comes up every 7 seconds, and with “Auto-mark” the game places the beans for you, so little ones only need to shout “¡Lotería!” in time.
