Jigsaw Puzzles

Free online jigsaw puzzles of famous paintings

Free jigsaw puzzles in your browser, with nothing to download. You choose a painting and how many pieces you want (24, 48, 96, 150, 300 or 500) and put it together on a restorer’s table, dragging the pieces with the mouse or your finger.

All 356 paintings are in the public domain and hang in the Arcadópolis Museum: from Leonardo, Vermeer and Velázquez to Hokusai, Monet and Van Gogh, by 40 painters. There’s a painting of the day, and when you finish you see its label: title, painter and year.

It’s one of the 51 games in the Arcadópolis Games folder.

What it has

  • 356 paintings by 40 painters, with a painting of the day, a random one or by painter.
  • Six sizes: 24, 48, 96, 150, 300 and 500 pieces, with the tabs of a real jigsaw puzzle.
  • Neighboring pieces stay together when they fit, and pieces that reach their spot in the frame settle in by themselves.
  • Tools: a faint view of the painting over the frame, edges only, gather the loose pieces, zoom in and out.
  • Your game saves itself, along with your time; every piece that fits plays a note.
  • 105 of the paintings have a sticker in the Museum album: finish them with 96 pieces or more to earn it (one a day).

How to play

  1. Open the Games folder and tap Jigsaw Puzzles.
  2. Choose how many pieces you want and a painting: the painting of the day, a random one or any you like from the gallery.
  3. Drag the pieces: join the ones that fit and take them to their spot in the frame. Start with the border using “Edges only”.
  4. Zoom in with the wheel, by pinching or with the buttons, and drag where there are no pieces to move around.

How many pieces should I choose?

With 24 or 48 pieces a painting comes together in a few minutes, perfect for a phone or for playing with kids. At 96 or 150 you need to pay attention to colors and textures, and from 96 up, paintings with a sticker give it to you. With 300 or 500 pieces it’s a real tabletop puzzle for several sessions: your game saves itself and you can come back whenever you like. The pieces change shape with the painting’s proportions, so a tall portrait and a wide landscape are cut differently.

Tips for putting it together

Start with the border: “Edges only” leaves just the frame pieces in view. Then gather pieces by color (the sky, a face, a dress) into groups outside the frame and bring them to their place already assembled. “Show painting” shows a faint image to help you get your bearings, and “Gather pieces” arranges the loose ones around the frame when they pile up. On 300 and 500 pieces, zoom in to see the details.
