Diamond Moon

Diamond Moon: a free strategy card game

Diamond Moon is a free strategy card game, in your browser with nothing to download. Aboard the zeppelin Áurea, the gambling automaton VAPOR-VII guards a legendary gem and will only hand it over to whoever beats it at its own game. You can challenge it to a duel or sit at a table of four with Lady Ferrum and The Stoker.

Whoever has the most points when the common deck runs out wins. On each turn you play a secret card from your hand and draw: you see two cards and keep one. The next card in the deck is always face up, so every move takes thought: draw now, dodge it with a Pass or pull it in with the Brass Magnet.

It’s one of the 51 games in the Arcadópolis Games folder.

What it has

  • Sixteen secret cards with different effects, from the Molotov to Prince Charming.
  • Six public cards that play themselves when drawn, for better or worse.
  • Gears that add and red valves that subtract the moment you draw them.
  • A duel against one automaton or a table of four, on three difficulties.
  • Automatons that remember what they’ve seen, target whoever is ahead and save their best cards.
  • Your game saves itself, and winning earns a few tokens for the card album.

How to play

  1. Open the Games folder, tap Diamond Moon and choose the table and difficulty.
  2. Check your starting hand: you can swap it for five other cards, once.
  3. On your turn, tap a card to read and play it, or discard one to the bottom of the deck.
  4. Finish by drawing: pick one of the two cards that come up and keep an eye on the deck’s next card.

The cards

Secret cards stay in your hand until you play them. Some score points, like the Siren Song, which also punishes whoever steals it from you; others attack, like the Molotov, which takes eight points from a rival, or the Blood Diamond, which takes a quarter of them. Soulmates adds half your points and the Shooting Star repeats any secret card you’ve already played. Public cards aren’t chosen: Bad Luck, the Kiss of Death and the Curse are played the moment they appear, just like Good Luck, True Love’s Kiss and the Diamond Moon itself, which can’t be destroyed.

Tips for winning the gem

Save Soulmates for the end, when you have lots of points. If the deck’s next card is a red valve or the Kiss of Death, the Pass lets you skip the draw. The Steam Shield pays off when you’re in the lead, because the automatons attack the leader. And count the cards: the deck warns you when only a few are left.

Common questions

Can I play against other people?

No: you play against computer-controlled automatons, one in the duel or three at the table of four. On Grand Master they rarely slip up, remember what they’ve seen and know when to dodge the next card.

How long does a game last?

About ten minutes for a duel and a bit longer at the table of four. If you close the window, the game is saved at the start of your turn and picks up where you left off.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. On a phone the table stacks vertically: you tap a card to read its effect and play it, and the buttons sit right below your cards.
