Block Breaker

Free online block breaker game with music

A free block breaker game in your browser, with nothing to download: move the mallet so the note bounces back and break every bar in the level. Play with the mouse, your finger or the keyboard, on a computer or a phone.

Here every brick is a metallophone bar, and each bar you break plays the next note of a song: break several in a row and the melody comes out on its own. A staff at the top lights up the notes you’ve played and, when you finish the level, the whole phrase plays.

There are 12 levels with 12 public-domain or traditional tunes, from “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” and “Las mañanitas” to Mozart’s “Turkish March” and Beethoven’s “Für Elise”. It’s one of the 51 games in the Arcadópolis Games folder.

What it has

  • 12 levels, each with its own pattern of bars and its own song.
  • Colored bars (one hit), steel bars (two hits), brass bars (unbreakable) and light bars that drop a gift.
  • Five gifts: a long mallet, three notes at once, slow tempo, a sticky mallet and one more life.
  • A combo of up to ×8 for breaking bars in a row before the note comes back to the mallet.
  • You choose the sound: the same timbre picker as the other music games.
  • Your game is saved at the start of each level; six achievements and your records in your profile.

How to play

  1. Open the Games folder and tap Block Breaker.
  2. Tap the table (or press Space) to launch the note from the mallet.
  3. Move the mallet with the mouse, your finger or the arrow keys so the note doesn’t fall; where it hits decides where it goes.
  4. Break every breakable bar to move on to the next level. You have three lives.

The 12 songs

Each level has a short, well-known tune: “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”, “Mary Had a Little Lamb”, “Are You Sleeping?”, Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy”, “London Bridge Is Falling Down”, Brahms’s “Lullaby”, “Las mañanitas”, “La cucaracha”, Petzold’s “Minuet in G”, Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King”, Mozart’s “Turkish March” and “Für Elise”. The first ones are slow and easy to follow; the last ones are faster and have more bars.

Tips for clearing the levels

To send the note to one side, catch it with the edge of the mallet; with the center it goes almost straight up. Open a gap toward the top: when the note gets behind the bars, it bounces between them and the ceiling, breaks several in a row and builds your combo. Brass bars don’t break, so use them as cushions. Only go for gifts if you can keep an eye on the note: a life is worth more than a few points.

Common questions

Is Block Breaker free?

Yes. It’s free, with no ads and no account needed: open it in your browser and play. If you create a free account, your achievements and records are also kept in your profile.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes: slide your finger across the table to move the mallet and tap to launch the note. On phones the mallet is a little longer, because a finger covers more than a pointer.

Is my progress saved?

Yes: the level, your points and your lives are saved at the start of each level. If you close the window halfway, you pick up at the start of that level when you come back.
