Pool

Free online pool: 8-ball and 9-ball

Free pool in your browser, with nothing to download: aim the cue, choose your power and sink the balls in the six pockets. Play 8-ball or 9-ball against the computer, on Easy, Normal or Hard, or two players on the same device.

The table has petrol-blue cloth, walnut rails and brass star sights, and the balls roll, collide and bounce with their own physics. A guide shows which ball you’ll hit and where it will go; top spin makes the cue ball roll on and draw brings it back.

Each ball that drops plays its note and, if you sink several in one turn, they make a melody; in 9-ball, from 1 to 9, a scale. It’s one of the 51 games in the Arcadópolis Games folder.

What it has

  • 8-ball (solids and stripes) and 9-ball (always the lowest ball first).
  • Against the computer on three levels (on Normal and Hard it tests its shots with the same physics before shooting), or two players.
  • A full aiming guide on Easy and Normal, and a shorter one on Hard.
  • Power with the slider or by pulling the cue back, and top, center or draw spin.
  • Fouls, ball in hand and the 9 on a combination, like on a real table.
  • Your unfinished game is saved; six achievements and records in your profile.

How to play

  1. Open the Games folder, tap Pool and choose 8-ball or 9-ball and your opponent.
  2. Aim by moving the pointer or tapping the table; fine-tune with the arrows.
  3. Choose power and spin, and shoot (with the button, with Space or by pulling the cue back and letting go).
  4. If you sink one of your balls, you keep shooting; if not, or if you foul, it’s the other player’s turn.

8-ball and 9-ball rules

In 8-ball, one player has the solids (1 to 7) and the other the stripes (9 to 15); groups are set by the first ball pocketed after the break. Sink all of yours and then the 8 to win. If the 8 goes in early, or on a foul, you lose; if it goes in on the break, it goes back on its spot.

In 9-ball you must always hit the lowest ball left on the table first, and any ball you pocket lets you keep shooting. Whoever sinks the 9 wins, even on a combination. Fouls are the cue ball going in, hitting no ball or hitting the wrong ball first; after a foul, the opponent has ball in hand and places the cue ball anywhere.

How to shoot better

Aim at the point of the ball that sends it toward the pocket: the guide shows where the cue ball will make contact and where the object ball will go. Soft shots are more accurate; use power only when the ball is far away. Think about where the cue ball ends up too: draw brings it back and top spin carries it forward, so you can leave it ready for the next shot.

Common questions

Can I play pool against the computer?

Yes, on Easy, Normal or Hard. On Easy it misses often; on Hard it picks the best shot, tests it with the physics before shooting and misses far less.

Can two people play?

Yes, on the same device, taking turns. At the top you see whose turn it is and, in 8-ball, which group each player has and which balls they still need.

Does it work on phones?

Yes: tap the table to aim, set the power with the slider and tap Shoot. It works in the browser, with nothing to install.
