Saying Farewell at Xunyang (detail)
What you see
Rounded blue and green mountains fill nearly the whole scene, stepping back into the distance. At the center, among red-trunked pines, a rider on a white horse moves forward, followed by a servant with a bundle on his shoulder. On the left, a pavilion with a red railing looks out over the water, which spreads pale into the distance.
The colors are intense: turquoise, deep blue and green, with ochre and gold edges defining the slopes. The pine crowns are built from small strokes of dark ink. Spot the red-leaved trees scattered through the landscape and a tiny figure peeking from behind a hillock to the left of the rider.
