Meteor Shower

Meteor Shower: a free Moon base defense game

Meteor Shower is a free game where you defend the Moon base, in your browser with nothing to download. Meteorites fall on the base’s six modules and you click (or tap) the sky: the nearest crystal tower fires a beam of light that opens into a flower and pulverizes them.

Every meteorite you destroy bursts in turn and can take others with it, so chains are worth more and climb up the scale. There are twelve real meteor showers, from the Ursids to the Leonids: each one comes from its own constellation and falls at its real speed.

It’s one of the 51 games in the Arcadópolis Games folder.

What it has

  • Twelve real showers, each with its radiant, its speed in km/s and a fact when it ends.
  • Chain reactions: up to ×8 the points, with a higher note for every meteorite.
  • Three crystal towers that hold four beams each and recharge on their own.
  • Fireballs that split in two and cracked meteorites that break into three.
  • Ice comets with gifts: a shield, a recharge, slow motion or a repaired module.
  • Mouse, finger or keyboard, and a faster second round after the Leonids.

How to play

  1. Open the Games folder and tap Meteor Shower.
  2. See which constellation the shower comes from: all its meteorites will come from there.
  3. Click or tap a little ahead of the meteorites: the nearest tower’s beam opens into a flower where you aimed.
  4. Hold out until the shower passes: you score for the modules still standing and your accuracy, and the next one begins.

The twelve showers

They’re real meteor showers, in order of difficulty: Ursids, Draconids, Alpha Capricornids, Taurids, Delta Aquariids, Orionids, Eta Aquariids, Quadrantids, Perseids, Geminids, Alpha Monocerotids and Leonids. Each one falls at its real speed (the Draconids arrive at 20 km/s and the Leonids at 71), the Taurids bring fireballs and the Alpha Monocerotids come in bursts. When each shower ends, the game tells you which comet or asteroid it comes from and when to see it from Earth.

Tips for defending the base

Aim a little ahead of the meteorites, not right on them: the beam takes a moment to get there. Wait for several to bunch up so you catch them in a chain, and let the nearest tower fire while the others recharge. Break cracked meteorites early, before they split, and don’t let ice comets get away: a shield or a repair can save the game. Every 5,000 points earns a spare module.

Common questions

Do meteorites really hit the Moon?

Yes. Since the Moon has no air to burn them up, meteoroids reach the ground, and telescopes record the flashes of those impacts, especially during meteor showers like the Geminids. In the game, the base defends itself with beams of light.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes: tap the sky where you want the beam to open. On a computer you can use the mouse or the keyboard: the arrows move the sight, Space fires and 1, 2 and 3 pick the tower.

What happens after the Leonids?

A second round follows with the same twelve showers, faster, and so on until the base falls. The game saves at the start of each shower, and your record stays on your profile.
