Singing Gems

Singing Gems: a free match-3 gem game

Singing Gems is a free match-3 game in your browser, with nothing to download. Swap two neighboring crystals to line up three or more of a kind: each crystal is a musical note and, when you match them, they sing.

The six crystals are the notes C, D, E, G, A and high C, each with its own color and shape. At the top is a phrase from a public-domain melody: match the color of the next note and the phrase moves on and plays. There are two modes: 30 moves with three stars, and endless.

It’s one of the 51 games in the Arcadópolis Games folder.

Free, no ads, nothing to install.

What it has

  • An 8 × 8 board with six crystals, one per note, each with its own color and shape.
  • Five public-domain melodies in phrases: Hot Cross Buns, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Amazing Grace, Auld Lang Syne and Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.
  • Three specials: the tuning fork (four in a row) clears a row or a column, the bell (an L or a T) clears its surroundings and the prism (five in a row) clears one color from the whole board.
  • Cascades that climb in pitch and multiply your points.
  • 30-moves mode with stars at 4,000, 8,000 and 12,000 points, and an endless mode.
  • Hints, saved games, records in your profile and six achievements.

How to play

  1. Open the Games folder and tap Singing Gems.
  2. Drag a crystal toward its neighbor (or tap one and then the other) to swap them. It only counts if it lines up three or more of a kind.
  3. Look at the phrase at the top: the highlighted note is the next one. Match crystals of that color to move the melody along.
  4. Make specials with four or five in a row, or with an L or a T, and chain cascades to raise your score.

How scoring works

Each crystal cleared is worth 10 points, multiplied by the step of the cascade: on the second fall they’re worth 20, on the third 30, and so on. Each special you make adds 40, and each completed phrase of the melody, 500. In 30-moves mode, the first star comes at 4,000 points, the second at 8,000 and the third at 12,000.

Tips for a higher score

Look for moves near the bottom of the board first: they move more crystals as they fall and set off cascades. Combine specials: a tuning fork that reaches a bell sets it off too, and a prism clears the most common color in one go. Don’t chase the phrase at any cost; a good cascade is worth more than one note, even though finishing the phrase gives you 500 at once.

Common questions

Are the melodies copyrighted?

No. They’re traditional public-domain melodies, arranged for the game’s six notes. When you finish every phrase of one, the next one begins.

Can I play if I can’t tell the colors apart?

Yes. Each note has its own shape as well as its color: circle, diamond, triangle, hexagon, square and star. The phrase at the top uses the same shapes.

What if there are no moves left?

The game shuffles the crystals by itself, without using a move, until there’s a move to make. And if you can’t spot one, the Hint button shows you.
