Arcadópolis Plaza: a free 3D world to explore

Arcadópolis Plaza is a free 3D world you explore on foot in your browser, with nothing to download: a round plaza on an island floating in space, at night, under a ringed planet. You walk with the keyboard, the mouse, your finger or a gamepad, and go into each building through its door.

It’s the heart of Arcadópolis. The Museum is to the north; Arcade 3D to the east; the Library to the west; the music bandstand to the southwest; and the photo booth to the southeast. In the middle there’s a garden with trees of light and a fountain whose pool reflects the stars, and Bit, a guide robot who floats around, gives you tips.

What it has

  • Five places to go into: the Museum, Arcade 3D, the Library, the bandstand and the photo booth.
  • A compass at the top and a Places button, with 10 destinations to go straight there.
  • Bit, the guide robot, with 17 different tips.
  • A rocket to the Moon or Mars and a submarine to Coralópolis.
  • A cel-shaded look with ink outlines, fireflies and shooting stars.
  • Jumping, a jet pack and first- or third-person view with your 3D avatar.

How to use it

  1. Open Arcadópolis Plaza from its desktop icon or the start menu.
  2. Walk with W A S D or the arrow keys (Shift to run) and drag to look around; on a phone, drag at the lower left.
  3. Click or tap a building to walk to its door, and press E to go in.
  4. When you come out, you’re back in front of that same door. In Places, “Desktop” takes you back to the desktop.

What’s inside each building?

The Museum, Pinacópolis, is a 3D painting museum with a room for each painter; the Library, Bibliópolis, a library with 226 free books, 126 in Spanish and 100 in English; and Arcade 3D, a hall with 19 machines. The bandstand opens Andromeda Phantom DAW, a studio to compose and record, and the photo booth opens Avatars so you can change your avatar. Doors open by themselves as you approach, and you can see the rooms through them. Next to the arcade there’s also a sticker machine.

Where do the rocket and the submarine go?

To the south, the rocket on the dock takes you to the Moon or Mars: pick where to go, watch the countdown and lift off. On the Moon you weigh one sixth and jumps go over three meters high; on Mars you land next to a base with a greenhouse and solar panels, and you can drive a rover over the dunes. To the southwest, the submarine dives to Coralópolis, a city under the sea with a glass music studio. To come back, the same rocket or submarine brings you to the plaza.

Common questions

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. On a phone the plaza fills the screen: drag at the lower left to walk, drag anywhere else to look around, or tap the ground to walk there. There are buttons to jump and to switch cameras.

Can I play with a gamepad?

Yes: the left stick walks, the right stick looks around (press it to switch cameras), the bottom button goes in, the top button opens Places and the left trigger runs.

Who is Bit?

The plaza’s guide robot. He doesn’t walk, he floats, and if you tap him or press E next to him he gives you another of his 17 tips. Hearing five different ones earns you the “Bit’s friend” achievement.
