Two clusters of pink geraniums with maroon blotches on the upper petals, round toothed leaves and buds

Geraniums

Louisa Anne Meredith, 1836

What you see

Two stems rise from the bottom and end in clusters of flowers. The larger one sits at the upper left; the smaller one peeks out on the right. Round, toothed leaves spread below, and on the left hang buds with red tips. The composition climbs on a diagonal, from the leaves to the highest flower.

The petals combine two tones: pale pink on the lower ones and a maroon patch with dark veins on the upper ones. In the right-hand cluster the maroon is stronger and covers almost the whole petal. The leaves range from dark green to a bluish green. Seek out the orange stamens in each flower and the pink bud bending beneath the large cluster.
